MISSION HILLS, CA – July 1, 2014 – UNICOM Systems, Inc., a Division of UNICOM Global, today announced that it has acquired the solidDB® In-memory relational database management system from International Business Machines Corp. (IBM).  The acquisition includes both the solidDB software and the solidDB Universal Cache™ feature.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

As an IBM Premier Partner, IBM Reseller and ISV, UNICOM Global has been a trusted IBM partner for over 30 years, working closely with IBM to support and address customers’ technology needs.

UNICOM Global’s founder, president and CEO, Mr. Corry Hong, remarked that this latest acquisition, the 2nd in the last 6 months between the companies, builds upon UNICOM Global‘s 33-year business partner relationship with IBM, one of the world’s leading IT companies.. The current transaction follows the successful acquisition and transition of a worldwide customer base and technology from the December 31, 2013 acquisition of the Cognos Application Development Tools suite from IBM.

“We appreciate IBM’s confidence in our ability to effectuate such a complex global transaction, and will once again collaborate with IBM to ensure a smooth transition for our customers,” said Mr. Hong.  “solidDB has over 3 million deployments in telecommunications networks, enterprise applications and embedded software and systems, and UNICOM will focus on extending these customer investments through enhanced support and development efforts.”

As part of the transaction, UNICOM will open a new R&D lab in Helsinki, Finland, where the core development team for solidDB will continue to work, joining UNICOM as its newest employees.  Additionally, UNICOM has executed a Transition Services Agreement with IBM whereby certain transition services will be provided by IBM to and on behalf of UNICOM to allow for a smooth and seamless transition for all of the solidDB customers worldwide.

The solidDB In-memory database powers mission-critical applications for such companies including Cisco, HP, Alcatel and Nokia Siemens.  The solidDB Universal Cache feature delivers the industry’s first relational, in-memory caching software that accelerates IBM DB2® and Informix®, Oracle, Microsoft® SQL Server, and Sybase performance up to 10 times.

The acquisition of the solidDB solutions from IBM expands and builds on UNICOM’s strategic IT capabilities and offerings which will benefit UNICOM customers, technology partners and supply-chain partners. UNICOM continues to grow through sustained leadership, extensive capital resources, and its global presence thereby strengthening existing relationships with Fortune 500 and Global 2000 commercial customers, as well as with OEM, Support Providing Partners, other strategic partners, the U.S. Federal Government, State, Local and Municipal government entities, and with key healthcare providers.
